FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHO CAN BENEFIT FROM YOUR TREATMENTS?
Chinese Medicine can benefit all kinds of people. From individuals who have chronic conditions where progress seems hopeless, to those who are in great health but would just like to amplify their wellness routine with regular preventative medicine treatments. Back pain, anxiety, headaches, trauma, acute injuries, sleep disorders, sinus issues and allergies are just a few of the conditions that Acupuncture can treat.
WHAT INSURANCES DO YOU ACCEPT?
Eagle Cap Wellness is in-network with most insurances. If you give us your insurance information, we are happy to check on your benefits and let you know.
DOES IT HURT?
The word Acupuncture 'needle' is really a misnomer. Rather than needles, we use hair-thin pins and insert them with a guide tube to make the process as pain free as possible. Some Acupuncture points you can hardly feel at all, and others will give a quick sensation upon insertion. We call this sensation 'De Qi' and it is what we are aiming for. Occasionally, there may be some mild discomfort when a needle is inserted, but this is rare and the discomfort fades quickly. So no, Acupuncture does not hurt and is most often a very enjoyable experience.
HOW SHOULD I PREPARE FOR MY FIRST ACUPUNCTURE VISIT?
You can best prepare for your Acupuncture visit by wearing loose, comfortable clothing. Also plan on eating a small snack or meal before you come. If you plan on using insurance, bring your insurance card. Other than that, breathe easy knowing that you will be taken care of here.

WHY SHOULD I SEE A CHIROPRACTOR?
In my many years of practice as a chiropractor and naturopath, there have been quite a few questions and concerns about what chiropractors and do as they treat patients. It is my intention to answer those questions and concerns and clear up any misconceptions. So here are a few FAQs:
-Dr. Bonnie Wickwire
WHAT WILL CHIROPRACTIC DO TO HELP MY HEALTH?
Since spinal vertebrae house the spinal cord, adjusting the segments of the spine will free up movement of those vertebrae and prevent future injury and subluxation (joints not being in alignment).
And because the nerve roots from that spinal cord travel to organs and muscles, not having the vertebrae stuck (or subluxated) allows nerve impulses to travel freely to those organs and muscles and so allow them to function at their best.
WHY DO I NEED TO KEEP ON COMING BACK TO SEE MY CHIROPRACTOR?
Whether you have a new injury or just a subluxation the affected soft tissue and bones want to stay in the new position instead of in their normal position. Since no joint will adjust itself, these structures have to coaxed into their original state. Also, in an injury, torn soft tissue will heal in a crosshatch pattern (somewhat like a page fence) instead of its normal longitudinal lines. So both adjusting a joint and treating the soft tissue will return those structures to a healthy function, but these treatments need to occur several times to “teach” that injured structure or subluxation, to stay in its new and normal position. You wouldn’t expect one dose of a med to cure your high blood pressure or high cholesterol would you? Well it’s that same multiple “doses” of chiropractic that will help the problem.
WILL GETTING ADJUSTED HURT?
Since everybody is so different, people will have various responses to getting adjusted. Depending on the person’s nutritional health, stresses from life and their occupation and how long the problem has been there, occasionally some soreness after treatment may occur, but it is a soreness much like that experienced after a workout at the gym and it disappears later that day or by the morning of the next. Before I adjust anyone, I relax the soft tissue in the area to be adjusted with therapeutic ultrasound or massage which makes the adjustment easier to apply. I have had patients say that they can’t believe chiropractic can be so gentle and yet so effective.
WHAT EDUCATION PREPARES CHIROPRACTORS TO PRACTICE?
After earning a BA or BS in their undergrad education, students will then go through 4 years of a chiropractic college where in the first two years they concentrate on an intensive course load of biological sciences such as anatomy, physiology, pathology, neuroanatomy, neurophysiology, microbiology to name a few. They also start classes in adjusting in their first year which intensify in number and complexity each year after that and gives them the training to adjust any joint in the body. At least eight terms in imaging ( Xray, MRIs) are included as well as classes in lab diagnosis and interpretation.
